Mr, James Dwight Ray, 74
James Dwight Ray, 74, of Gainesville passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Truelove, Rev. Gary Huff and Rev. Jeremy Pass will officiate. Interment will be in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 15, 2019 and on Tuesday, April 16th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Born on January 7, 1945 in Gainesville he was the son of the late Edward and Trudy Mae Ray. He was retired from the Hall County Board of Education where he worked in the Maintenance Department. Mr. Ray was a member of the Gainesville First Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of Lanier Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ray is preceded in death by his brothers, Larry and Gene Ray and sister Doris Elrod.
Mr. Ray is survived by his wife, Kathy Ray of Gainesville; son and daughter in law, Jeffery and Dana Ray of Flowery Branch; granddaughter, Emily Ray; special pet, Gizmo; brothers in law and sisters in law, Philip and Teresa Strickland of Jefferson, Rev. Harley and Elaine Ingram of Oakwood, Wayne and Becky Pass of Gainesville, Richard and Deborah Lagasse of Flowery Branch and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to Thank the staff at Willow Wood Nursing Home and especially Linda for their exceptional care of Mr. Ray.

Daddy today is your first day in heaven I know you are rejoicing and suffering no more I miss you already so much but I know you are in a better place you meant the world to so many and will be dearly missed and we will see each other again where we will sit by the river of life and walk on streets of gold where we can drive our hot rods. Thank you Daddy for all your love we love you so very much.

Kathy and family, I am so sorry to learn of James passing, I have fond memories as We grew up and went to Gainesville Mill school .. we all walked home in a group laughing and enjoying life as we knew it planning what we were going to do in the summer . James will be dearly missed. I always enjoyed seeing him at school. He was always the sweetest man to me no matter what. Coming to the nursing home when Nanny passed away, he never knew what that meant to me. I will see him again one day and I know he's having a good time right now with no suffering!!! I love you Jeffery!
