Ms. Laura (Laurie) Margarita Macias, 57
Our sweet sister Laura (Laurie) Margarita Macias peacefully passed away April 16, 2021 after a long, brave battle with cancer.
Laurie was born July 20, 1963 in El Paso TX. The family moved to Yuma AZ where she attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and School, Yuma High School, worked at the AEA Federal Credit Union, and became a loving and devoted Nina (Godmother) to several children. In 1990 she attended a 4-day retreat, Cursillo, where she found her life’s calling. A few years later she moved to Gainesville GA and became an active member of Saint Michael Catholic Church and the Atlanta Cursillo. She lived every day to “make a friend, be a friend, and bring a friend to Christ”. She worked at Regions Mortgage for 17 years as a Mortgage Closer.
Laurie was recently preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Clinton Murphy. She is survived by her parents, Raul and Norma Macias, sister Rebecca Murphy, nephews Adam Murphy and Anthony (Sandra) Murphy, brother Richard (Katie) Macias, sister Norma (Doug) Lancaster, and nieces Patricia Asquith, Lindsay Murdock (Andy), Rachel Maurice (Mike), Megan Trantham and their families.
Laurie’s funeral mass will be held (and live-streamed) at Saint Michael Catholic Church on May 22, 2021 at 11:30 a.m., immediately followed by interment services at Memorial Park Cemetery. A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.
Laurie and family received many accommodations, prayers, generous and kind acts of support, and compassionate care from her extended family, coworkers at Region’s Mortgage, her Cursillo brothers and sisters (Arizona and Georgia), parishioners of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Saint Michael Catholic Church, Amedisys Home Health Care Team, and Northeast Georgia Hospice Team. She and our family are eternally grateful.
Laurie left this world a better place than what she found it.
Due to Covid-19, the family requests that everyone attending the visitation and service wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504 is in charge of arrangements.

Laurie, I know you are in a much better place and no longer having to battle that terrible disease, but my heart still aches. We lost a wonderful person but heaven and the Lord gained a beautiful angel. You will always be one of my most favorite past students and I will never forget you. I pray for you and hope you are praying and watching over me. RIP Laurie.
My sincerest condolences. Laurie was a beautiful soul. I can recall our conversation during my cursillo weekend. She touched many lives for the greater glory of our Lord. May God rest her soul.
I met Laurie at my Cursillo weekend 2yrs ago. She sat at my table and played a big part in making it an incredible spiritual weekend. She lived her Faith and I'm sure she is singing with the choir of Angels in heaven. May God's comfort and peace surround her family and friends in the days to come.

Norma, God sends angels to us and they brighten our lives, our homes, and everything around them. You had one in your home for 57 years: what a gift and joy! Finally God had to bring her back to her home in Heaven. May our Lord Jesus hold you firm in His love and comfort you and all of your family as you celebrate Laurie's return home with her lord.

Laurie was a shining jewel to all those who came to know her through Cursillo. One could see the Holy Spirit working in her and through her. She will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched. I pray that she may rest in peace and that her family, especially her parents, will be consoled in their grief-- until you meet again. Peace be with you.
