Glenn Waldrip Obituary

Glenn Otis Waldrip, 89, was called to his heavenly home on March 23, 2024.   It is fitting that if Glenn couldn’t be planting his garden in the spring, his work here on earth is done.

He was born February 26, 1935 to Otis and Eva Waldrip. He was married to Virginia Pinson Waldrip for 66 years, prior to her passing in August of 2023.

Glenn worked at Gainesville Iron Works for over 40 years.  While working he also labored in his beloved shop on evenings and weekends welding trailers and any odd job a friend or neighbor brought his way.  Once he retired, he pursued his true passion, gardening.   He had always been a farmer and loved growing vegetables for his family and friends but upon retirement he took it to a whole new level.  He was the first authentic local farmer at the Alpharetta farmers market and sold at the Gainesville farmers market for many years.  At the height of his farmers market days, it became a family affair to simply try to gather all he had grown to sell.  Many Gainesville restaurants also welcomed him to their back door buying fresh vegetables.   Although he enjoyed the extra retirement income from the markets, we soon realized it was really all about the people he met along the way.

As much as he enjoyed his hobbies, spending time with his grandchildren was his truest joy.  He was happiest in the mountains with his family or sitting on the front porch after a Sunday meal with all his grandkids around.  Rides on the mule, breakfast at Reeds, helping in the garden are all precious memories.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia. His grandson, Zachary Cook; his sister, Blanch Waldrip Stowers and husband Boyd; brother Winfred Waldrip and brother-in-law, Gary White.

Glenn is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa Waldrip Young (Brian) of Gainesville.   Gina Waldrip Cook (Mike) of Roswell.  Grandchildren: Hannah Young Christopher (Dan) of Tampa FL., Hunter Young (Beth Anne) of Alpharetta, Cooper Cook of Athens, and Chandler Cook of Roswell.

Sister, Brenda Waldrip White (Ed Shriver) of Dalton and Sister-in-law, Betty Waldrip of Gainesville and many nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for Elaine Garrett and the many caregivers he had at Phoenix who lovingly referred to him as "Papa".

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 27th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
