Katherine (Kathy) R. Haynes

Anita Katherine Robertson Haynes, age 76, of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.  She was diagnosed with glioblastoma in June of 2023. 

She was born in Lebanon, VA, on December 30, 1947, to the late Roy S. Robertson, Jr. and Lillian Katherine Brooks Robertson. Kathy graduated from Virginia Tech and went on to get her masters in Dietetics at Emory University.  After graduation, she accepted a position as the first registered dietitian at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and moved to Gainesville. It is there where she met the love of her life, Harrison Haynes, of whom she was married to for 51 years.  Kathy owned and operated Stork and Kids World and the Uniform Shop on the square for 50 years. They attended First Baptist Church of Gainesville. Kathy was a member of the T. Richard David Sunday school class. She was also an avid member of the flower committee and truly enjoyed flower design. Kathy was a member and judge of the Crabapple Garden Club with which she enjoyed traveling with many friends for flower shows. Kathy was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as senior president of the Children of the American Revolution in which her grandchildren were members. Growing up in Virginia, Kathy was involved in 4-H and earned the prestigious title of master 4-H’er. She continued this legacy by volunteering for the Hall County 4-H program as a board member.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, F. Harrison Haynes; son and daughter-in-law John Haynes (Ashley) and daughter Brooke Smallwood, grandchildren Pierce and Wade Haynes and Bentley, Kennedy, and Lilly Smallwood, of Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Debbie Robertson of Athens TN; J.P. and Wanda Robertson, of Auburn, KY, Thane and the late Jeannie Robertson, of Etowah, TN; Roger and Annette Robertson, of Englewood, TN; Mark and Allie Robertson, of Olmstead, KY; Mike Robertson, of Guthrie, KY, Glen and Samantha Robertson, of Allensville, KY, Matt and Jamie Robertson, of Olmstead, KY; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edie and the late Jerry Melton, of Athens, TN; Bonnie Martin and Elden Cardin, of Madisonville, TN; Tamira Robertson, of Englewood, TN; Robyn and Dave Shannon, of Loudon, TN. Kathy has many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother Roy Stanford Robertson III and son in law Jason Smallwood.
            In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to be made to First Baptist Church of Gainesville.
            The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel with interment to follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Dr. Bill Coates will officiate.
