Paul Edmond, Sr., 100 years young was born July 22, 1923. He departed this life Tuesday, February 27, 2024. He was born to the late Marcus and Pearl Tate of Elberton, GA. He was affectionately called “Son” as a pet name given by his parents.

He attended the public school system in Elberton and later joined the United States Army and was a proud World War II veteran. He was the last surviving sibling of six children.

He worked on the railroad for 12 years and retired from ConAgra Feed Mill in Gainesville, Ga.

At the age of 98, he had an interest of playing the guitar and has taken several lessons. He has always enjoyed attending church, cooking and going on long rides.

Mr. Edmond was a kind, giving and passionate man. He was always willing to help others with an open heart and open arms. He loved his family and they loved him. He will be missed by all.

Mr. Edmond accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of Greater Gethsemane F.B.H. Church where he served as a deacon.

Mr. Edmond was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Mrs. Emma Sue Allen Edmond; siblings, Roberta Edmond Tate (Huit), Lurman Edmond, Rozell Luvenia Edmond Hardaway (Thomas Jefferson), Sam (Annie Laura Moon) Edmond, Robert Clarence Edmond; one grandson, Claude Fortson, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories, four sons; Claude (Shelia) Fortson, Paul (Dorothy) Edmond, Jr., Terry (Phyllis) Edmond, Darrell Edmond; three daughters, Belverly Ann (Morris) Bowden, Cathy Edmond, Gloria Wilms; one sister in law, Kathleen Goddard; one first cousin: Earlene Tate Thompson; seven grandchildren, Corey, Tasha, Felicia, Ronald, LaShunda, Jillian, Brittney; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at Garden of Gethsemane F.B.H. Church, 1537 Old Athens Rd. Gainesville, GA .30501. The viewing for Mr. Edmond will be at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Officiant will be Pastor Elease Davis. Eulogist will be Apostle Anthony Brown. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
