Dr. Gary Stewart Obituary

Dr. Gary Richard Stewart, 77, of Gainesville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Born on October 1, 1946, he was the son of RB and Freda Sue Stewart. Gary was a lifelong resident of Gainesville, except for his time spent in military service.  He served in the Air Force from 1966 to 1972 with one tour in Vietnam.  After discharge, Gary returned to school to become an educator.  He worked for the Hall County School System for 38 years as a teacher and administrator.

A lifelong servant of others, Gary touched the lives of his family, friends, coworkers, and students. He will be missed.  Gary is preceded in death by his father, RB Stewart, sister, Melody Park, brother, Stanley Stewart, and daughter, Andrea Bell.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Martha Mabry Stewart, daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Eric Saxton, granddaughter Anna Saxton, granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Abby and Michael Freeman, and Emma and Brett Burbank, great-grandchildren Mabry and Walker Freeman, mother Freda Sue Stewart, and sister, Maria Vickers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.
